The lake is 30 km long and 16 km wide and underground springs keep the water temperature between 14 and 24°C throughout the year. The town of Ohrid nestles at one end of the lake with narrow streets bordered by some superb Macedonian architecture. Located on the shores of Lake Ohrid, the town of Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. Its ancient name was Lichnidos, which was used to refer to the settlement of Ohrid and the lake.
